Has anyone tried this little gem, based on Go Nagai's masterpiece?
It definitively is a survival horror game. For those that don't know the manga's story, you play the role of Akira Fudo, a joung student. Rei Asuka, your best friend, has some strong evidences that the world will be attacked and invaded by the demons, which where the real rulers of Earth in ancient times. The only way to fight this, is to make an human fuse to a demon in an ancient ritual and become a Devilman: the flesh of a demon with the heart of a man.
The game starts when Ryo and Akira goes to the Ryo's father (the archeologist who discovered the truth about demons and died horribly) mansion, but they are attacked by the demons and are separated.
You as Akira, must rejoin with Ryo and complete the ritual.
The game is divided in two parts, before and after the fusion.
Before the fusion you are completely harmless and defenceless, and the gameplay is more focused on running from the demons and solving puzzles. After the fusion the game turns to a much more action focused gameplay, with incredible peaks of graphic violence.
The game is playable even by who don't understand japanese thanks to the guides that you can find on gamefaq.
Has anyone tried this game?
EDIT: A little note. The game is based on the MANGA and not on the anime of Devilman, even if the anime devilman is unlockable after finishing the game fulfilling some conditions. _________________ Call me Snake... |

Been playing it. It's good, nothing fantastic though. I like the strength system.
I think a FAQ is not really needed (at least not for chapter 1).
I'm stuck at the end of chapter 1 though, on the Giant Vagina Spider Cat boss. You need to tap buttons but you have to do it really fast... _________________ You want that helicopter evac, Jill ? |

Giant Vagina Spider Cat really sucks. Still haven't beat it. Plus, I really want to see the 2nd part of the game. _________________ You want that helicopter evac, Jill ? |

I remember seeing a video on youtube which shows the transition between chapter 1 and chapter 2.
However, to beat that boss you must press REALLY FAST square, circle, triangle, x. _________________ Call me Snake... |

There you go:

The "spider" part actually comes from the fact that monster used to be "just" a giant spider cat a bit earlier in the game. _________________ You want that helicopter evac, Jill ? |

Chapter 1 and 2 are pure survival horror, the last one is a beat'm up.
Some bosses are really hard to beat, anyway it's a really nice game _________________ ...fear is fascinating |

Chapter 2 you say? It was already action horror for me. The one beginning with the accident in the subways ?
But yeah I liked chapter 1 a lot, just running away from monsters was done really well (unlike in say, Shattered Memories, which didn't invent that either). I loved the camera angles during the chases, well at least inside corridors, some of the bests I've seen in a survival horror game really (too bad they were awful inside most rooms though, you really couldn't see much inside those)
I just wished the survival horror part was longer, it only took me 1h30.
Anyway I didn't even beat the 2nd chapter, I quit on some bosses that were too hard. The hit detection is awful anyway and the controls are clunky during the fighting. _________________ You want that helicopter evac, Jill ? |

I don't remember, I played it long time ago... btw it becomes boring/frustating when you reach a place with giant iron gates...
A new edition for Dreamcast was planned but... poor Dreamcast... R.I.P. _________________ ...fear is fascinating |
