AboutI like survival horror games. I like the idea of an action/adventure game that integrates fighting, exploration, puzzle solving, and a story. I must admit that I am also partial to horror as a story genre, probably thanks to the vast number of horror movies I consumed in my youth. As with horror cinema, survival horror games are usually quite bad. When a good one comes along, however, it's worth its weight in gold.![]() On this page you will find my attempts to catalog every console survival horror game ever produced, complete with review scores, notes, and screenshots. My goal is to play every game listed on this site, and from that experience create a set of guidelines for future game developers. Now, here is the part where you come in. I've generated this database of games from my personal knowledge and fairly extensive internet searching. However, I have no doubt missed a few titles. If you notice that a title is missing (and it passes the quest requirements below), please let me know about it in the forums. There is one more way you can help. If you have any of the games on my Wanted List that you no longer play, you can donate them to the quest. I'll pay you for the postage and post your personal message or link on the info page for the game you submit. Come on, you are never going to play Countdown Vampires again, right? Donate a game and I'll be eternally grateful. About the Quest When I first decided to play every survival horror game ever made, I foolishly planned to include all horror games ever. I quickly realized that there are tons of games that are classifiable as "horror," especially on the PC. In order to give myself some chance of actually completing this quest, I decided to focus the range of games I would play. I have created a comprehensive set of guidelines that regulate which games I add to the Quest and which I do not. About the Database Each entry in the database includes information about the game's release date, quality, and quest status. Release dates are always the dates that the game was released in North America, even if it came out earlier in Japan or Europe. Games that were not released in America list the original release date. Game quality is broken up into two scores: "chris' score" and "world score." Chris' score is my own personal rating of the game, while world score is a score compiled from metacritic reviews of the title. When no Metacritic (or gamerankings.com) scores are available, I compute the world score by averaging the results of as many reviews as I can find. I translate percentage scores into a 4 star rating. You can read more about that rating in the FAQ. Each entry also records the current quest status of the game. A title may be "in progress," meaning that I am playing it right now, "complete," meaning I've finished the game, or neither, meaning I haven't started it yet. Games I have managed to obtain have also been marked as such. The Wanted List lists all the games in the database that I do not yet own. In the future, I would like to add more information to the database. I am considering adding:
![]() Rule #1: Never post your photo on the internet. I am not a huge fan of posting personal information on the internet, but I suppose that you might be a little more interested in what I write if you know something about me. I'm a programmer in the game industry, I live with my wife in Silicon Valley, and I like Radiohead a lot. I have degrees in computer science and Japanese, and I thought Haruki Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle was a masterpiece. Here's a picture of me at a lecture I gave in Beijing in 2005. |
